Apples & Pears

New York State’s cool climate, varied seasons, and fertile soil bring us the rich, nuanced flavors and robust shelf life of New York grown apples. GrowNYC Wholesale delivers over fifty varieties of apples over the course of the year, from heirloom varieties to eating and baking standbys to newly developed favorites. Our multigenerational, family owned orchard partners bring us their finest fruit from two of the state’s best apple growing regions, the Hudson Valley and Lake Country fruit plain.

Stone Fruit

Our favorite summer fruits with a “stone” inside. GrowNYC Wholesale offers a dozen varieties including white and yellow peaches, white and yellow nectarines, apricots, sweet cherries and sour cherries, as well as Italian, Methley, and Golden plums.

Berries & More

The bursting, sweet tart flavors of local berries are one of the reasons we first fell in love with local. Available locally during short sweet seasons – “carpe diem” – we select strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries bred and picked for peak flavor. In mid- to late fall, grape varieties include Jupiter, Concord, Niagara, and fragrant Einset. Cranberries arrive just in time for the holidays.

Salad Greens

With year-round availability, GrowNYC Wholesale’s salad greens come from Satur Farms and Radicle Farm Company, who specialize in growing crisp, flavorful baby greens and blending restaurant ready mixes. Availability ranges from single bulk varieties like spinach and arugula; to mild blends; to adventurous, piquant combinations.

Cooking Greens

Bunched and loose leafy cooking greens include kales – green, red, Russian, Lacinata – swiss chard, and collard greens, so fresh and green that they border on blue. GrowNYC Wholesale sees two seasons for bunched cooking greens, aggregating them from local farms in summer and fall, and an extended season from partners in the Southeastern United States.

Roots

Robust staple and specialty roots, jewel toned and packed with earthy flavor – carrots, beets, potatoes, turnips, radish, sweet potato, celery root, and more – form the heart of many local menus. The first tender baby roots and new, uncured potatoes kick off the summer, and hearty roots carry us through the fall harvest and into the winter root cellar.

Mushrooms

Greenmarket Co.’s mushrooms are grown sustainably by Primordia Mushroom Farms in Berks County, PA.  Many varieties available year-round – ranging from classic, grillable portobellos to delicate maitake and chefs’ mixes.

Tomatoes

Nothing says summer like the ripe, full flavor and fine texture of real tomatoes – they’re what put farmers markets on the map.  Our farm partners supply us with flavorful beefsteak slicers, ruby vine tomatoes, chubby plum tomatoes, and multicolored heirloom varieties.

In order to offer a robust supply year-round, we see a second season for tomatoes from our Southeastern United States farm partners during winter.

Alliums

Boasting some of the most fertile soils in the country, New York State’s Black Dirt region got its start as a glacial lake, and now produces extraordinary vegetables.  The region is perhaps most famous for its alliums – onions, shallots, and garlic.  The Black Dirt region’s soil boasts high sulfur levels and high organic content, lending the region’s onions and garlic their rich balance of spicy and sweet flavors and hardy texture.

Herbs

A delicate scattering of fresh herbs brightens any dish, in any season.  Radicle Farm brings us a wide selection of fresh greenhouse grown herbs all year, and we’ll add field grown herbs to the list in summer and fall.

Grains, Flours & Beans

One of the most exciting recent developments in the local food movement, GrowNYC Wholesale’s selection of locally-grown grains and fresh milled flours offer unparalleled, complex flavor and nutrition in baked goods and grain dishes. GrowNYC has worked with regional growers since 2004 to kick start a nascent local grains economy by building demand for regional grains; supporting research into seed varieties, growing methods, processing methods, and culinary applications; facilitating processing infrastructure and distribution; and encouraging bakers to showcase regional grains in their baked goods.  GrowNYC Wholesale now offers a full range of these newly developed grains, flours, and beans in both classic and heirloom varieties.  We are proud to work with Farmer Ground Flour, Small Valley Milling, and other growers and millers.

Eggs

Our philosophy is that happy, healthy chickens raised with environmentally responsible methods simply produce better eggs.  Red Gate Grocer and Early Bird Co-op work with networks of small family egg producers in the local region to ensure a consistent wholesale supply.  Early Bird Co-op’ eggs are third party certified organic and pasture raised by American Humane Certified, and Red Gate Grocer’s eggs are certified Free Range by American Humane Certified.  With their chickens free to wander and forage outdoors, our partner farms’ eggs boast deeply colored yolks, tight whites, and rich flavor.

Honey & Maple Syrup

GrowNYC Wholesale carries bulk and retail packs of 100% pure honey and real maple syrup, both produced in New York State by trusted farm partners.

Spring Specialties

The first harbingers of spring are asparagus and wild foraged crops – ramps (wild garlic), fiddlehead ferns, and nettles.  Their clean, lively flavors signify a special moment, the first harvest of the growing season each year.

Summer Specialties

As the weather warms, local fields begin to burst with summer abundance, and GrowNYC Wholesale focuses our sourcing on New York State.  We deliver farmstand fresh sweet corn, cucumbers, summer squash, peppers, eggplant, head lettuces, and more.

Fall Specialties

Harvest season classics include broccoli, cauliflower, and sweet potatoes.  We’ll deliver dozens of winter squashes as well, from subtle delicata to distinctive black futsu, as well as jack o lanterns and sugar pumpkins.
